Application Modernization
Modernize legacy applications with pragmatic architecture changes, containerization and automation.
What we do
We modernise legacy systems incrementally — reducing risk at every step rather than betting the business on a single large rewrite.
Assessment
Dependency mapping, runtime constraint analysis and a prioritised modernization roadmap based on what the code actually does.
Refactor and Replatform
Moving to modular architectures and containers incrementally, keeping the existing system running throughout.
CI/CD
Automating builds, tests and deployments so changes become routine rather than events to be feared.
Dependency and Risk Analysis
Identifying unsupported runtimes, vulnerable libraries and the modules most tightly coupled to the rest of the system.
Incremental Migration
Sequencing the move so each stage delivers working software, instead of value arriving only at the end.
Release Safety
Automated regression coverage and staged rollouts that catch problems before customers report them.
Common challenges
Modernization projects fail most often on sequencing and confidence, not on technology. We plan around that.
- Large legacy codebases nobody wants to touch because every change feels risky
- Runtime and framework versions long past end of support
- Releases that depend on long manual regression testing cycles
- Understanding of the system concentrated in a few long-tenured engineers
Our approach
We map dependencies and runtime constraints before proposing anything, so the roadmap reflects the system you have rather than an idealised version of it.
Each step is independently valuable and independently reversible, with automated tests and staged rollouts protecting production throughout the programme.
Technology
Docker, Kubernetes and AWS for runtime, with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI automating build, test and release.
FAQ
Do we have to rewrite everything?
No. Rewrites usually fail on scope and unknowns. We modernise the highest-value areas first, and each stage leaves the system in a better, working state.
How long does modernization take?
It depends entirely on the size and condition of the codebase. We give you a phased roadmap after the assessment so you can see what each stage delivers and stop after any of them if priorities change.
Can you work on a codebase with no tests?
Yes. We add tests that characterise the current behaviour first, so we can prove a change is safe before making it.
Will the service go down during migration?
We design for no-downtime migration, routing traffic between old and new paths and switching gradually. Any step that genuinely cannot be reversed is called out before we start it.
